It's #NationalVolunteerWeek and we're celebrating all the good work CoreCivic employees put in to better their communities. This month, staff at CoreCivic's Northeast Ohio facility in #OH put together birthday boxes and donated them to a local school in an effort to make sure students who can't afford to celebrate their birthdays have the opportunity to do so. Thank you #volunteers!

This week is #NationalVolunteerWeek and CoreCivic is celebrating all the effort employees put in to not only better their communities, but better lives. Hundreds of CoreCivic employees donate their time to help and support those around them year-round. This includes staff from CoreCivic's Citrus facility in #FL who volunteered at a local festival and at the Cancer Crusaders Walk. Staff from Central Arizona in Florence #AZ and staff from Whiteville #TN read to children in their local communities for Read Across America Day. These are just a few examples of the amazing work being done, and CoreCivic wants to thank all of our #volunteers.

April is #SecondChanceMonth! Did you know: research by the Society for Human Resource Management finds companies that created a culture to ensure second chance employees can succeed are experiencing more loyalty and engagement among their workforce. This leads to low turnover and higher-quality outputs, which builds stronger company performance.

Did you know #PellGrant funding is now widely accessible to incarcerated individuals? The Pell Grant Expansion initiative is expected to increase post-secondary education participation in prisons from 40,000 students to 760,000 nationwide. CoreCivic has multiple #college partnerships in place, such as with Ashland University, making earning a diploma with #PellGrant funding possible for those in our care. #Education is critical to #reentry success. #HelpingPeople. Thank you to Cheri Garcia and Cornbread Hustle for visiting our Saguaro facility in #AZ to help provide second chance opportunities for those in our care. Programs like these not only help transform lives and rehabilitate justice-involved individuals, but they also help provide stability and keep communities safe.
Last week, I hosted a 4-hour prison workshop with participants who completed our Cornbread Hustle 12-week Starting Over program. We discussed the importance of vulnerability, transparency, and community while coping with change. We also went over step-by-step instructions on how to find, apply, and keep a second-chance job opportunity. We ended the day by enjoying some delicious cookie dough provided by Doughp! I'm very grateful that CoreCivic provided the space and approval for this to take place. Happy Second Chance month! I hope this warms your heart like it did mine. <3
