Marine Group Boat Works Winning Safety Award is No Accident

(Chula Vista, CA, May 10, 2019):  Marine Group Boat Works, LLC (MGBW) was recently awarded the 2018 Safety Award by the American Equity Underwriters (AEU). Out of over 3,000 companies, MGBW was selected for having the most effective safety program for a mid-size boatyard. The AEU Safety Awards factors metrics involving management and supervisor commitment to the overall program.

“You can’t have a strong safety culture without the support of everyone on your team,” said MGBW’s Compliance and Safety Manager Joe Beltran. “With 185 employees, it also takes lots of communication and customized approaches to find the right methods that will stick.”

“It’s a company-wide effort to keep every employee going home to their family the same way they came to work, and Joe has done a great job ensuring that happens,” said Todd Roberts, President of MGBW.  “This is our first AEU Safety Award, but we are committed to it not being our last.”

MGBW has currently completed 572 work days without a Lost-Time injury and will be celebrating this achievement on May 10th with a yard luncheon hosted by AEU, in the company of City of Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas and Councilmember Mike Diaz.

In 2016, The City of Chula Vista fittingly proclaimed May 10th as Marine Group Boat Works Day in recognition of the boatyard’s impact on the San Diego maritime industry for more than 35 years, its contributions to the community and setting the standard as a leading job creator and top sustainable green business.
